Maritime Island Press is owned by Ken Swanton, the author of "The Martime Age on a Maine Island".
His new book is illustrated with over 350 historic and modern photos. It traces an island community through the rise and fall of Maine's legendary and prosperous maritime age.
The above 1920 photograph shows the cove on Westport Island where the author’s family has lived for five generations. The two houses were built by sea captains in 1842 and 1787. During the maritime age, the two buildings on the shore were fish houses where salted cod were stored.
